Blood transfusions
for emergency and seriously ill patients

S Animal Medical Center is a member hospital of the Korean Canine Blood Donor Association. We are prepared to provide urgent transfusions for emergency and seriously ill patients, for whom timing is critical. Through a regular blood donation program, we keep blood on hand so that transfusions can proceed smoothly when a patient in our hospital needs one in an emergency. Donations follow a careful, efficient procedure designed to reduce stress for donor dogs and keep them comfortable.

The Korean Canine Blood Donor Association (KCBDA), the first organization of its kind in Korea, is a volunteer group founded by owners of large dogs to help dogs that need transfusions and to end the use of dogs kept solely to supply blood. It regularly recruits donor dogs and supplies the blood collected to 17 partner animal hospitals. Donors are healthy dogs weighing 25 kg or more, aged 2 to under 8, vaccinated and dewormed. Before donating, they are screened for heartworm, tick-borne disease and anemia-causing pathogens (PCR) and blood-typed.

*Partner hospitals across Korea accept blood donations from large dogs. Donor dogs receive a health check, and donations help reduce reliance on dogs kept solely to supply blood.
